What should I wear?

When shooting families I prefer subjects wear matching clothing in earth tones and block color if possible. Busy clothing patterns and wardrobe that doesn’t match can often deeply effect a clients perception of my skill level.  Fashion & character shoot clothing is often determined by communication with the subject or client separately addressing each look we are intending to achieve.  Clothing is difficult but consider how many Hollywood films you’ve see where the only thing selling the concept  be it vast desert, ocean or woods is the clothing.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes, you can bring a friend. No matter the shooting interest or style of the day friend/s & family are always welcome. Comfortable subjects are far more likely to project the looks we are trying to achieve.

I have specific poses in mind

All too often we can aim for a specific thing that obviously worked in the shot you shall but will come out contrived in the initial shots we take.  Yet I will always say, “That’s great let’s try them out.” You never really know. If that pose doesn’t work  I will do my best to communicate some direction as I see it best fit through the lens. I will openly admit however that many of my best images were a result of working with professional models or subjects that were simple naturals and or extremely comfortable infront of the lens. If you’ve seen a pose in a book etc. be sure to practice it and feel it out in front of a mirror or phone selfies whatever is at your disposal.

What’s your travel cost?

Here is the big one. I currently live in far west end of Powhatan and I have a pretty awesome studio here. But it is a long drive for most that know of my work from my time shooting in Richmond or NYC etc. So I can travel to you but unless shooting outdoors on a nice day I will have far more gear to hull with me. So depending on distance and needs I may have a comparable travel charge. If you like to come to me my pricing will reflect a discount cost for your travels. If you are a model I have asked to shoot with me I will accommodate your travel cost.

What if it rains?

I’m always able to refund any deposits or reschedule for better weather conditions. It does happen all the time so do try to be flexible Murphy tends to be a bit stubborn at times. If you have a deadline always have  a studio session backup plan or another photographer if needed that can accommodate the time slot if I am unable to fit you in to your convenience

Deposit?

I do require a half up front deposit for any service over $200 or 1/4 deposit for any wedding session over $1,500.
